Our Story

Our Sweet Carolina Water Story

Sweet Carolina Water is a North Carolina spring water brand delivering clean, refreshing hydration in sustainably packaged aluminum cans. Sourced from Moonshine Spring and developed by Appalachian State students, Sweet Carolina was built through hands-on entrepreneurship, environmental responsibility, and community innovation.

From mountain spring to store shelves, every step of our journey reflects a commitment to premium natural spring water, sustainable packaging, and real-world student experience. What began as an idea has grown into a student-led startup bringing locally sourced spring water to communities across the High Country and beyond.

Sweet Carolina Water begins at Moonshine Spring in Hendersonville, North Carolina, one of the state’s certified natural spring water sources. Naturally filtered underground, our spring water delivers crisp taste and consistent quality while preserving the natural resources of the High Country.

Packaged in infinitely recyclable aluminum cans, Sweet Carolina Water provides a sustainable alternative to plastic bottled water while keeping hydration cold, clean, and refreshing.

Led by App State students

Led by App State students

Sweet Carolina Water is operated by students through Appalachian State University’s Association of Student Entrepreneurs. Students lead marketing, operations, sales, finance, and brand development while gaining hands-on experience building a real consumer packaged goods company.

This learning-lab model transforms classroom education into practical entrepreneurship experience, preparing students for careers in business, marketing, and sustainable product development.

Building a sustainable water brand

Building a sustainable water brand

Launching a beverage company requires more than great water. From sourcing and packaging to logistics and distribution, Sweet Carolina Water was developed through real startup challenges faced by student entrepreneurs.

The team worked to secure sustainable packaging solutions, production facilities, and local partnerships to bring a student-built spring water brand to market across Boone and the High Country.

What's next for Sweet Carolina?

Sweet Carolina Water is focused on growing thoughtfully and sustainably across Watauga County and beyond. As we continue learning direct-to-consumer and business-to-business sales, we are expanding local retail partnerships, preparing for additional production runs, and investing in vending machines, coolers, and refrigeration to increase accessibility. Our goal is simple: build brand awareness, strengthen community presence, and scale responsibly while staying true to our mission of delivering premium North Carolina spring water in environmentally conscious packaging.
